across pantropical to temperate and Arctic regions. In Australia there are 8 genera
and c. 50 species in Australia with native species occuring in tropical and subtropical
regions in north eastern Australia and introduced members of tribe Saliceae naturalised
in temperate regions of Australia. Description: The species within this family are trees or shrubs, sometimes dioecious, glabrous or pubescent, with or without spines, sometimes deciduous with well developed winter buds, the bud scales often sticky.
