The type of plasticity refers to the degree to which either the consistence, field
texture or both properties of a soil suggest the amount of clay-sized particles it
contains (Butler 1955). It may be identified by determining two field textures: one
after an initial 1 to 2 minute working of the soil sample, and another after a prolonged
10 minute kneading. The change in field texture from the initial to the prolonged
working of the soil sample indicates the type of plasticity.
