Distribution: This family consists of 25-30 genera that is distributed worldwide but
mainly in the Northern Hemisphere. In Australia there is 6 genera and 15 species that
are all introduced as crop weeds, ship-ballast waifs, or ornamentals.
Description: The species within this family are annual, biennial or perennial, caulescent
or (not in Australia) scapose herbs, or subshrubs, shrubs, or (not in Australia) small
trees.

Pollen Morphology: The pollen produced by this family have a rounded triangular shape
in polar view and are ovate in equatorial view. These pollen grains are 25-30um in
size and have 3 colpi that are elongate and wide with blunt/rounded ends, indistinct
edges and a distinct study membrane.
