definition | Distribution: In Australia species within this family are endemic and there are 4
genera and 17 species found. These species are mainly found in drier regions and are
absent from the wet tropics. Description: Species within this family are short-lived trees or shrubs that are annuals, dioecious or monoecious. For more details regarding the description of species within this family please see: https://profiles.ala.org.au/opus/foa/profile/Gyrostemonaceae Pollen Morphology: The pollen produced by this family has a rounded triangular shape in polar view and a flattened oval (oblate) shape in equatorial view. In the polar view the walls of the pollen grain turn inwards towards the pores, as in a clover shape. The size of the pollen grains is between 15-20um in polar view and they have three colpi that are shallow with ragged edges that do not protrude out of the grain. The surface texture of these grains is smooth (psilate). |
